Title: ASUS ROG Ally: Pre-orders open with cheaper AMD Ryzen Z1 model to follow
Post by: Redaktion on May 12, 2023, 15:27:44
ASUS is now selling the ROG Ally, its first gaming handheld. For now, the ROG Ally only comes in its most expensive Ryzen Z1 Extreme trim. A Ryzen Z1 model is on its way, but not until Q3 2023 at the earliest.

And for when the ultrabooks with AMD ZEN 4 7040 Phoenix. ???
The question is why OEMs choose Intel instead of AMD which has better products example in servers and even more in laptops Zen 4 7040 Phoenix with RDNA 3 vs 13th Gen intel with Xe which hasn't been updated in 4 years

Because Intel is available right from the start.

Because laptops, especially thin and light ones, are used for many things where Intel is actually ahead and not only gaming?

They're not coming this year. And even when they do, they'll be in extremely overpriced, limited supply/availability in select markets/regions like 1-2 notebook designs only.

There isn't any real incentive for AMD to compete in U-series market as their higher TDP HS chips are as efficient as intel's U/P-series. Not to mention lower margins on these chips for AMD as well.

Your best bet is probably just getting a 7940hs laptop (flow x13 - available in uk/eu now) and then lowering the TDP to 15w.

AMD have repeatedly said several times already that they're prioritizing wafer silicon supply/production to servers and consoles. They do not care about consumer dGPU's or laptop's -- it's just a niche side business for them.

Intel's Meteor Lake will have superior iGPU to Phoenix's RDNA3 and be available in laptops by the end of this year. So maybe best to wait for that.

It's time to move on.
