HP Omen 16 laptop review: A good choice for gamers even with Zen 4

HP's Omen series has been on the market for a few years now. The manufacturer combines AMD and Nvidia hardware in the current 16-inch xf0376ng model. You can find out whether or how well this mixture harmonizes in our review.

A disgusting keyboard with a completely damaged numpad, which immediately puts an end to the entire series - HP after the almost perfect case and keyboard of 2018 - simply buried itself.

Slow processor at the level of Zen3+, but not at the level of 2023 for 1900 euros.

Little RAM volume and disgusting RAM tuning in the BIOS.

A shameful set of ports for a Zen4 Phoenix processor (and not the top-end 7940HS for a monstrous 1900 euros) - there are no two built-in USB40 on the left and right or in the back, there is not even a shameful 2.5Gbps RJ45! Although for this price, the buyer in the fall of 2023 expects at least 5Gbps to work with home NAS and servers in the office at SATA3 speeds, at a minimum.

The laptop is noisy.

A screen with a shameful contrast of only 1000:1 - compare with the neighboring E16 review, where the panel is supposedly 1600:1+ by reviewer. And bad response time.

From the point of view of games, the 4070 can no longer handle even 2022 releases in 2.5k and ultra quality, i.e. the laptop is definitely not a for gaming, much less a promising model.

Rhetorical question - which alternatively gifted buyer will choose this model for the monstrous 1900 Euros?

Well done HP Omen for sticking with 1920x1080 for the 8gb VRAM on the 4070, also for the selection/offer of 7840hs 4nm Phoenix, perfect for heat/efficiency in a laptop and the ability to iGPU game effectively for lots of battery saving on games like Civilisation. Finally for the screen brightness being above all other 1080p offerings I've been researching. This overall combo looks like a winner at the right price point, thanks again.
