Title: Apple is obliged to open access to third-party payment methods on apps in its Store
Post by: Redaktion on September 12, 2021, 21:57:30
Epic Games has failed to convince a US court that Apple has broken the country's anti-competition laws. Nevertheless, the Cupertino giant has now officially lost its monopoly on purchases made within apps that run on its operating systems and are bought through its App Store. Therefore, Fortnite may indeed return to iOS soon.

Weird sentence, the judge ruled out against monopoly but as a matter of fact the owners of millions of devices still can't install Fortnite because Apple removed it; on the other hand it ruled that Epic has to give back the money that Apple collected under a scheme that the same judge is ordering Apple to discontinue. I hope Epic will manage to get things straight on appeal.

As per the judge Gonzalez Rogers - "The App Store policy by which only first-party payments are allowed is "anticompetitive" and should be stopped."

Why no charges for being anticompetitive?

Clearly Apple was aware and implemented this feature knowingly.

So, Apple not being penalized is an example of what?

Money Power?
