Title: Huawei likely to partner with Indus OS to develop Google Play Store alternative
Post by: Redaktion on March 03, 2020, 15:35:28
Huawei has been hard at work developing its own Play Store alternative for quite some time now. The company is reportedly negotiating with Indian app developer Indus OS to create one for the country.  Indus OS is an established player in the region and has over 400,000 apps on its platform.

Wasn't already clarified that GDSA does not involve Huawei?

Forget about it. Huawei as a company will be dead, it's more than just phones. And good riddance.

Is Huawei going to be a third company sucking private user data, beside Google and Apple?  Huawei should ditch GMS and switch to open source, for example they can use /e/ OS from e foundation. There is no need to collect any personal data. They can provide privacy to users instead of trying to be another walled garden.

All the Chinese manufacturers have a far worse record on privacy, part of the reason is that the Party openly requests that invasions on privacy by the party remain discreet, unlike the US where at least they generally need a warrant to access your private data. So it's not at all in their interest to use something open source whose security is verifiable by 3rd parties.
