Title: Could 5G and NVIDIA make gaming hardware obsolete?
Post by: Redaktion on September 11, 2018, 19:11:43
NVIDIA brought its GeForce NOW to the AT&T Spark Conference to showcase the service's potential when combined with 5G. The company is confident that its new cloud-based graphics solution can negate the need for expensive hardware in areas such as 60fps gaming. It is now moving to build partnerships to bring this to a wider audience.

The main issue here is latency, not bandwidth (although that is also very important). Especially for FPS games, you need latency in the low 10s ms, maybe even lower. Will 5G be able to offer that, consistently?

And the cost of sending that much data over a 5G connection.  Unlimited or not, it's going to be a deep pockets affair.  And as the above person noted, unlike a "dropped call" one lag spike or interruption and it's "game over"...
