Microsoft has delayed the release of the Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 8, according to a report. The two devices may not arrive until Q1 2021, with Microsoft opting to release an updated version of the Surface Pro X and a budget Surface Laptop, instead.

Sad honestly.  Since I really am not inclined to wait that long I guess I'll have to use the XPS 13 with TL instead.  MS shouldn't have to rush - but  6-9 months is a long time to wait.

So last years somewhat lackluster update will be around for another year...   guess its out of the running for another year.     Damn you Microsoft and Samsung leaving me to consider buying an iPad... oh how I loathe them but they just keep getting further ahead.

Maybe they're waiting for the AMD 5800U to arrive? Although it'll probably still be Vega GPU :( the CPU will be Zen 3 and should totally blow Intel in performance per watt :)

Are you seriously suggesting they've been sticking with 3780U and avoiding upgrade to 4700U/ 4800U because they're pining for 5800U? Renoir was already a big upgrade. And they didn't wait for it. They didn't push for a mid-generation update or earlier release of next generation. Personally, as I said before, I'm not expecting to see laptops with Cezanne on shelves in Q1. Renoir is still trickling into market. I can imagine Microsoft pulling it off, but I wouldn't be surprised if they released Laptop 4 with Renoir instead. Or if they scrapped the AMD version altogether. That was my main worry when Renoir arrived - that it would suck if there was no Laptop 4 with Renoir after the not very warm welcome the AMD powered Laptop 3 received.
