Title: Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Next & ThinkPad X1 Nano: What is Lenovo planning?
Post by: Redaktion on February 26, 2020, 17:36:10
Recently, a GitHub driver page was spotted that lists upcoming Lenovo ThinkPad laptops. Among them are two models not announced or leaked before: The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Next and the ThinkPad X1 Nano. What could these devices be?

8th gen was disappointing (is it even shipping, yet?) because it just added a larger X1 tramp stamp and changed a few of the function keys around. No new CPUs (Vomit Lake is already available with 7th gen), battery is still small, KB is still low travel, trackpoint is still shorter than ever before (well, excluding the X1 Tablet).

Nothing new, nothing better. At least one thing worse.

The X1 tablet suffered from a major quality issue and is in dire need of a refresh. There are no other Thinkpad devices that allow for productivity as the tablet does due to its 3:2 aspect ratio. All the other Thinkpads are basically entertainment-only devices in that respect.

Maybe Lenovo is planning a response for the Microsoft Duo, a  small two screen X just a bit larger than a phone.
I am hoping that they come out with a model with two trackpoints, one for each index finger. We touch typists would welcome that.
Aside from that I am very happy with my Carbon X. More processing power, more powerful graphics, more RAM, longer run time, lighter weight, narrower bezel are always a plus.

What has touch typing to do with it? I can reach the nub with both hands. And even if you have to re-position, you can find the nub by feel and then get back by feel as well (that's why F and J keys have those protrusions on them). I think they'll sooner get rid of the TP altogether then introduce a second one.

Instead of all this mess, what Lenovo needs to do to the X1 is:

1) Provide a 3:2 or 16:10 screen ration
2) Provide a separate row for function keys
3) Provide an international warranty as standard
