Title: VIA is working on the Zhaoxin KX-6000 octa-core CPUs, aims at becoming serious AMD / Intel competitor
Post by: Redaktion on September 26, 2018, 21:27:45
After years of research and development, VIA is ready to launch multi-core CPUs that may threaten Intel's and AMD's position on the entry-level and mid-range desktop / laptop CPU markets. The upcoming Zhaoxin KaiXian KX-6000 octa-core CPUs are scheduled for a 2019 release, and their performance should be comparable to Intel's gen 7 models.

I'm all for extra cpus in the market to keeps things competitive my only worry is that once these are released they are inspected for any "holes" that might be present for the security conscious. If they could provide a true LibreProject Capable cpu with modern performance, I could see these being a true boon for internet privacy.

heres hoping

Performance per core according to Geekbench is only comparable to Intel's Goldmont cores. Goldmont is actually somewhat better.

Goldmont is used in Apollo Lake platform. In mobile terms its called Pentium N4200.

Likely only intended for Chinese market, since the US is getting a little unpredictable with its technological embargoes for no good reason and such. (US gov't banned Xeon sales to China a few years back, other weird stuff may be following suit as we get into a full blown trade war)
