Title: Microsoft Surface Pro 4 flickering screen? Ice it down
Post by: Redaktion on February 02, 2018, 22:43:59
While the Surface Book had screen flickering issues that were solved with a software update, this time the Surface Pro 4 seems to be facing a classic case of overheating-induced flickering. Although it might not be a good solution in the long run, it looks like adding some ice helps to quickly eliminate the problem.

I don't think we should be telling consumers even in jest to ice down the devices. The potential for further damage is too great, condensation, causing ice damage to the LCD etc etc.

Though Microsoft says affected users should contact support, be aware they are charging for out of warranty support calls, and charging users to have the devices replaced.

Cooling it off while sealed in a bag might enable users to remove data before sending it for repairs, but using the mini DisplayPort and an external screen would be a better option.

While this might give the user some time to sort out their data, the flickering gets worse over time as the thermal damage gets worse, the only real solution is to get it repaired or replaced.

Definitely an overheat issue with mine.  I kept feeling the back of the unit when flickering, quite hot.  Tried putting it in freezer, which fixed it quicker than just turning off for long period.  Installed a small fan that clips to desk from Amazon, problem solved.  Cool back on the unit.  amazon.com/gp/product/B01420PC2O/
