Last post by Redaktion - Today at 03:55:08
VMware Fusion Pro 13 can run Windows 11 on a Mac, even on modern Macs based on the Apple M1, M2 or M3. While private users previously had to pay $199 for the software, the license is now free.

Seems unlikely that it will rival M2 GPU performance..... Maybe some extremely nerfed variant of M2 ....  Given how much we've seen thermal throttling from SD 8 products these last 3 generations and the minimal performance gains from each gen. SD is still struggling to keep up w/ Apple's A series bionics in graphical compute w/o excessive cooling....

Quote from: usacomputer on Yesterday at 18:58:24I don't know how much these laptops will cost but if Dell continues with these high prices no one will buy them.
What everyone is demanding right now, even small and large companies, is MINISFORUM V3 for its mobility, CPU and GPU power and the essential battery life in this type of product. Look for its official website or videos on YouTube and you will see the comments.

I agree Minisforum & alot of small chinese mobile compute companies are showing the market that the direction they took w/ mobile compute was wrong. the V3 proved that Microsoft fudged the entire Surface line just to suck up to intel when they should have been putting AMD chips in their devices for the last 4+ years. The only downside is that Miniforum is still learning to write drivers by themselves and optimize their systems to make best use of power and compatibility.

Ok, lets forget for the moment that even a GTX1060 or GTX1650 can run 'most' games @ 720-1080P (generally the more modern the game, the less eye candy/details to get 'acceptable' FPS).

So sure this is a 'notebook' site and for a number of years (AFTER the afore mentioned GPU's were produced) many MEDIUM to HIGH end notebooks are sporting much higher resolution displays.

IMHO: there DOES come a point with every gamer where 'enough is enough' and given the SHOCK FACTOR from the OUTLANDISH GPU card pricing we've all recently lived through which IMHO may of 'broken' many's desire/need to upgrade the desire shifts from running something "maxed out" to being able to run it at all at settings & FPS that is 'acceptable'.

Given all the HYPE that this site (and others) have been giving the AMD <=780M in mobile gaming (which is ALMOST a GTX1650) it is no small wonder there is less attention to the higher cost/performance gear.

Maybe Dell will go back to their roots and make sense of their devices again and at least have a headphone jack.... At one point they had some of the best keyboards and trackpads but now they went down the sh*tter

I hope this fixed how horrible the recent generations of the XPS line have been. The XPS line has been diluted in terms of quality, price, and performance over the years to get closer to mainstream appeal. Ironically in return they've seen some of the worst sales numbers over all time as a result.... Dell has been making so many poor decisions these last few years starting w/ the lack of io...

Pretty strong doubt given the products history, maybe for the 10mk6, but pretty doubtful for the flagship model. Even the lowest end display on flagships these days are like at least 1440p/1600p

News / President Biden raises US impo...
Last post by Redaktion - Today at 03:16:25
President Biden has raised US import tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, batteries, solar cells, medical supplies, semiconductors, port cranes, minerals, steel, and aluminum. The tariffs are in response to unfair Chinese trade practices as well as technology transfers that threaten US supply chains. Americans depending on syringes, face masks, and medical gloves will be hit by 25-50% tariff increases.

No surprise here!

While even AT the increased costs the Starlink service is generally the best performance for the price.

However there IS a limit to what people are willing to pay and many rural folks have lived for DECADES without anything close to 'high speed internet' so it is more of a luxury/entertainment/optional item rather than a necessity.

I purchased a dish kit shortly after service was available in area's that I travel in however at the current rate for mobile users given that I'd only be using it for 3-5 days a month it is not worth bringing with me and paying for.

Quote from: Ke on April 08, 2024, 07:15:47I found fan loud on my gen12. I am only browsing youtube playing 1080p60 video and no other task running. The noise level goes to 35db in an quient environment with 28bd background noise. I compared it with my 2021 latitude 7400 in the same environment with same task, the noise on latitude 7400 was around 28 with is almost inaudible. I wonder if I have bad luck got this one with some issue or this generation is just like that. I contacted Lenovo, they told me to upgrade BIOS, which I did. Nothing changed after.

I suffer the exact same situation where the rep of Lenovo came and determine the unit is functioning properly without any repair or replacement.  The only solution I found by now is to switch the power profile to "Best efficiency Mode" which the unit remains completely dead when doing general office and light use tasks such as rendering a 4K60p YT video and doing web browsing.

For the "Balanced" mode, I got crazy fan noise even the CPU is totally not under load at a temp of about 50 degrees.  My guess is that genius Lenovo just set a very aggressive goal to cool the device which the fan just constantly kick in to do its job.
