So, has anything changed in regards to CABC or do you have to get it under a Colorometer to find out?

I am sorry to be picky but this is not a 4k display, at best 3k. kindly fix headline, people can get  confused.

The new one whines too? I have the 9350 and can't believe dell or any manufacturer would release a computer that makes that noise. Coming from a macbook air I was really surprised to hear the constant buzzing when scrolling and moving windows around the screen. Is the coil whine a common PC thing or is it limited to dell machines?

Sorry, my bad QHD+, not 4K, should be fixed. The coil whining is definately in our bought sample (no press sample). Sometimes it sounds like an HDD noise, in Crystaldiskmark it also was more whining, but then the fan kicked in and overruled the noise. The coil noise is in my opinion just the noise that you hear when someone saved some Dollars on the machine :). Something Apple usually is not doing. But there are new iPhone 7 that got coil noise, so ... :)

Regarding CABC, did not see any traces up to now. Contrast was the same when measured in a window or fullscreen (altough the windows bar was still there). Have to look more into it. Stay tuned ...

One more quick question, will we be seeing a FHD Kaby Lake XPS 13 review from NoteBookCheck?

i've partially fixed the coil whine on my 9350 by installing the latest realtek hd audio drivers

FHD review is definately planned (in fact this unit was ordered as a FHD but arrived with the 3K panel).

Woah, not turning the fan on until 90 Celsius? That's, weird. What is it with Dell and wonky fan profiles?

Sometimes whining is not direct from the component but amplificated somehoe from the mic, did you try disabling the mic input or directly turning off the sound during the test?.

I had a crackling sound in my speakers in the 9350 (not sure if this is the coil whining you mention but it seems to be what some commentors talk about).
After updating the audio driver it only appeared anymore when there was some audio output expected like having a YouTube video open but without actually needing to play the video (talk about a cheap fix...).
Now, the really, really interesting part is that this crackling sound only appeared after I restarted the system in Windows. If I did a shutdown and then used the power button to start it up again voila no annoying sound.
I know it sounds silly but I did multiple tests and it always worked out like this for me.
It would be awesome if someone who has the same problem could confirm this as well :)

Hi, you listed DDR4 under specs, but Dell is listing this models as having DDR3. Could you please confirm yours indeed has DDR4?

Speed of DDR3 depends on your configuration. Only those with 16 GB use LPDDR3 2133MHz, 8 GB get LPDDR3 1866MHz.

I think DDR4 is only for the 15 inch model.

my bad, added DDR4 before getting the unit and did not think on looking it up. You are right, its DDR3 with slightly higher read speeds in AIDA than DDR3-1600 in a i7-5775C, so it should be lPDDR3-1866.

Regarding the HDD like sounds, deactivating sound output and mic has no effect on it, but its very silent. I only hear it (in a very quiet surrounding) under a meeter away and really when I get near the device. Should not be distracting when working (at least for me).

Would it be possible to upload the icc color profile for this panel?

I wonder if Dell did a crappy job with thermal paste causing the subpar performance and temps. Didn't that happen with the 6560u review notebookcheck did?

ICC Color profile upload is planned, currently running a revised WiFi benchmark (we had to alter the script, as Edge hung after 1-2h running the script and was not refreshing to the next page). Afterwards ICC will be uploaded. However, the profile did not change a lot, perhaps we have to try again to calibrate the display with more patches.

Can you try the shut down and start via button (as written before by me)? Weirdly this solved the issue for me.

+1 on the question about Content adaptive brightness control on this newer model. More specifically is this fixed on gnu/linux?

Just tried standby and cold boot and with our sample no difference for the coil whining. Asked Dell about CABC, looks to be active here when I look at the results when calibrating the monitor (brightness goes up with full 100% window size after a few seconds).

I thought it would be a perfect evolution of the 9350 with a refreshed Windows 10 OS But it looks like it's a fail...

A Kaby Lake slower than the Skylake, I think Dell has an issue with their bios tweaks or with the revision of their mobo...
The coil whine issue still here (my old Samsung np900x3c is still unaudible) and the f**king CABC too...
And why did they switch from Samsung to Toshiba SSD ?!

What about fully speced XPS 13 i7 Kaby Lake Compared to XPS 13 i7 Skylake. Employer will buy me whatever comp I want and I have been waiting for this.. Hold off until XPS 15 Kaby Lake? Initially I didn't go for 2016 model b/c it was toast in roughly 5 hours. Usually I am out in the field away from wall so the 9 hr battery is great. Anyone have any suggestions?

someone have problem with sleep with 9360? if i close the lid the screen turns black, but when i re-open this windows not ask me for password (and there is no dalay for screen for reactivate it, like is not really sleep).
On powerplan i can see only the balanced one, no Dell power profile, and i cannot modify any advanced features (like USB, pci...)

The panel seems to be more hot color among the old model (9350).
Can samone confirm that is normal?

Ok so there was an issue with the unit !
I am waiting for the clarification, hoping final verdict will be on par with initial expectations

Up to now no sleep issues with our review unit, regarding the reduced performance: It looks like our unit is reducing CPU speed (and GPU speed?) earlier than expected. I suspect e.g. bad thermal paste / pad from SoC to heat pipe, but we are in contact with Dell to see what it is.

With the xps13 you can buy an external power pack (the Dell Power Companion) which the 9350 it almost doubled the lifespan of the battery. Perhaps that's an option. 

Only for information, my 9360 with i7-7500U with 16GB ram come with Samsung PM961 500GB.

Alternatively, you can opt for the 1080p non touch version, the laptop is a bit lighter and the stamina is way better, you can reach 9 hours of battery life

Excellent review, just waiting for the performance clarification to see if this new update is worth it.

A quick question, if I buy the version with the 128gb SSD (SATA, non PCIe), can I later change it myself for a 512gb PCIe SSD? Dell's prices are too much, but I wonder if every 9360 model supports PCIe SSDs even if they are shipped with a 128gb SATA one.

i'm wondering the same. I guess they used the same motherboard and with some change in the bios one could use nvme instead of the 128gb sata, but confirmation would be great.

Isn't the display panel in the XPS 13 9360 QHD+ the same as in the previous generation XPS 13 9350 QHD+ which is the Sharp SHP144A?

If so why are your display readings so different to your recent review of the previous generation model here (http://www.notebookcheck.net/Dell-XPS-13-9350-i7-6560U-QHD-Ultrabook-Review.159487.0.html)?

Did you not disable CABC before doing the calibration on the XPS 13 9350 QHD+? I have recently purchased one and am struggling to find an ICC profile created with CABC disabled.

Like a few others ask; will it be possible to change the 128GB SSD myself to a bigger NVMe? Are the bad testresults fixed with updates/new test-pc yet?

I found no option to disable CABC (in the BIOS or Windows settings). Panel results however are rather similar to the old version (color accuracy). Brightness differs from test run to test run :(

Dell told us the the expect the media samples next week, still waiting. If someone already gets his unit, we would love to see some Cinebench 15 and 3DMark to compare.

SSD should be replaceable (as you see in our pictures).

Uploading readings for a screen which was dynamically adjusting itself throughout the calibration seems pretty unfair as they are especially incorrect.

How bad is the coil whine really? Can you hear it from 20 cm / working distance in a quiet room? There is a lot of info on this already but difficult to get an idea if this is a real issue or an exaggeration.

I have ordered 9360 so getting worried this would be an issue for me so would be great to understand how loud it is on the kaby lake version.

Otherwise the only other laptop that beats it is the Yoga 910 but this is still no available in Europe.

simple question for you guys :
my previous samsung np900x3c had the fantastic battery life extender - BLE - to prevent the battery from losing stamina.
this features worked incredibly well and I don't think there is a such option on the XPS 13
my question is, what is the best behavior to preserve battery life ? stay plugged in or full-charge/full-discharge or partial-charge/partial-discharge ?

Yesterday I received the notebook with the FHD screen and the i7 7500 processor. After a morning of browsing the internet I have yet to hear the fan spinning.

352 points for the Cinebench test (i7 7500u). Heard the fan for the first time :-)

Do you know if Dell is planning on offering a FHD w/touch version like with the 9350?

When I bought my Dell E7240 a couple years back it had really bad coil whine, I narrowed it down to Intel drivers for the HD graphics. Some may want to try uninstall drivers to eliminate possible sources.
It's now totally silent from >2cm away.
<2cm from the CPU location I can hear some faint static noises.

I had an experience with coil whine too.  (XPS 13 6th gen i5)

I think it is a case by case issue.  I have been close to 3 XPS 13's, all the same version.  Some were worse than others.  From "I have to return this thing" bad to "I can live with it" acceptable.

But it has been present on Intel chips for a decade.  I keep hoping it will disappear with every generation, but we are not that lucky.
