Title: The Dell XPS 15 9570 is here and is more powerful than ever
Post by: Redaktion on April 03, 2018, 14:04:42
The Dell XPS 15 9570 is certainly one of the highly anticipated refreshes both fans and reviewers were eager to catch hold of. In the wake of the 'Coffee Lake-H' launch, Dell has unveiled what could be its most ambitious XPS 15 yet. Sporting CPU options up to the Core i9-8950HK and GPU options up to the GeForce GTX 1050 Ti, the XPS 15 9570 has everything a multimedia enthusiast would require and more. Prices start from US$999 for the Core i5-8300H variant with expected availability sometime in May 2018.

Hopefully, the Thunderbolt 3 port will also be able to handle charging.

Also hoping that the maglev keyboard from the 2-in-1 will be on this model too, haven't read anything about that yet but I'm assuming it won't show up on the 9570.

Hi Aaron, according to the spec sheet, the TB3 port does have the PowerShare feature so it can handle charging directly. Maglev in 9570 is not happening.

i9-8950HK is nice, but how in the bloody hell can Dell get away screwing over its consumer base with those p***-poor GPU options? 1050ti... in 2018? Seriously?! That's practically the same horsepower as the integrated Vega GPU on the XPS 15 2-in-1!
There are several other significantly better options I can think of off the top of my head which are already available on the market:

- Razer Blade w/ 15.6'' 4k Touch Display (i7-7700HQ/ GTX 1060)
- Surface Book 2 w/ 15'' 4k 3:2 Touch Display (i7-8650U/ GTX 1060)
- Gigabyte Aero 15x w/ 15.6'' 4k or 144hz Display (i7-8750H/ GTX 1070 Max-Q)

^These laptops are WAY more powerful and have comparable battery life, weight, and form factor to the "new" Dell XPS 15.

So far, I'll wait for Gigabyte. At least their 14" laptop had the webcam in the right slot and Thunderbolt 3.

I hope Dell fixed the VRM overheating issue on these new XPS machines.  Otherwise throttling will only be worse with more powerful hardware.

I'm looking forward to buying one of these in September/October - ideally with an i7, 16GB RAM, GTX 1050 Ti (I hope the Ti won't be exclusive to the i9 or 4K InfinityEdge model - I'm fairly confident it won't be), 512GB SDD and the FHD InfinityEdge display (rather than the 4K). I just hope whatever Nvidia release in the near future doesn't make me regret my purchase ^_^

Nice machine, but what a pity it doesn't have a screen. You don't think anybody will use 16:9, do you Dell?

No maglev? This is a sad one, I've read it's a great keyboard. Anyway I'm eager to see your review on these devices.

The MagLev keyboard is interesting, but I think Dell is very careful with extending it to other lines. Rightfully so, as its feeling is very different compared with a normal Scissor switch laptop keyboard. Certainly, Apple has received a lot of criticism for its new Macbook Pro keyboard as well, so Dell is going to wait and see how well the MagLev keyboard is received.

DP out on the TB port, is that DP 1.2 or 1.4?
1050Ti was put in to lower throttling on the CPU I'd bet
Good job on the display, HDR would have been bonus points, but good job IF the rise fall times aren't a disaster like they have been before.
I have to wonder how much the 8750 and 8950 are going to throttle as someone else mentioned.
720p webcam in 2018/19?  They really want you to forget using that webcam given both placement and middling specs
Hope this thing doesn't get too hot
Does the TB3 out/in actually support the external display standard in the BIOS and OS?  There was a long standing issue about that before and I don't see it mentioned this time around.
Nice use of the fingerprint reader!
No facial recognition?  Really that camera issue just has many problems :)
I don't know till we see the order sheet, but really at this price level they should be offering Intel based Ethernet and wifi.  Smart shoppers know the difference and it should absolutely be on the upper priced models.
Upper end models or perhaps the entire range should be using Samsung SSD's.  Right now you play the SSD lottery which just isn't right at this price.  Surface Book 2 - you know you get Samsung, but that's part of the pricing.
Throttling is going to happen, both power and heat based.  The question will be how much.  A 1060 Max Q would probably have been smart, marketwise, but I think they are hitting power limits.
This thing is really good, compromising where the engineers had to, but we'll have to see NBCheck test it to see.

I was about to purchase 9560 but suddenly saw updates on 9570 and can definitely wait for it. Heard we can start booking from 16 April onwards but wonder when it hit India as it always delay to release in my country. And also can't compare the prices outside USA. If it starts at $999 in US then I can expect it to launch at least above 1 Lakh in India. I am looking forward to buy FHD with 1050Ti.

It will definitely take a lot of time to hit Indian shores. As you said, expect higher prices due to added taxes and import duties.

I actually just bought a 9560 a few days ago. I love it but bummed that it's now last year's model. Let's see how good Dell's return policy is. lol

On official website, new xps 9570 has 16million color display, but previous one had 1billion, can anyone explain why?

Expensive. I was hoping for less than a $1000 price tag on these.

That 21.5 hour battery life is a concievable figure. Hell, the 7577 gaming hit almost 11 wifi hours and over 20 idle with a 74 Whr battery and Kaby-H

I'm afraid not, judged by the pics in the now online service manual.
