Title: Researchers demonstrate palm-size 5D silica glass storage medium with 500 TB capacity
Post by: Redaktion on November 02, 2021, 21:06:55
Combining high-repetition femtosecond laser inscription with silica glass materials, researchers came up with a palm-size 5D medium that can store up to 500 TB. In addition to the three spatial dimensions, researchers also use solitons and the strength of retardance of the nanolamellar structures etched with the lasers as fourth and fifth dimensions, respectively.

A lot of people would love to have this at the right price, but the same university has been posting about this for almost a decade now.

Was thinking the same. When I saw this it reminded me of a similar article I read several years ago about multi-TB data storage cubes. Storage and battery tech seem to be a couple fields where you see these fantastic discoveries and the exciting prospects of huge leaps, only to continue crawling along year after year with no major improvements. I hesitate to even read these types of articles anymore, and I'll believe it when I see it.
