GPD is refreshing the Win 2, its 6-inch handheld that can run AAA games. The company has not only bumped the device up from a Core m3-7Y30 to a Core m3-8100Y, but it has also redesigned the motherboard to aid better heat dissipation, upgraded the storage to 256 GB and improved the speakers. The new GPD Win 2 is available to order now for US$775 and will ship from July 26.

QuoteWho is going to buy a US$700US$775 handheld that can only run threefive-year-old triple-A titles at around 30 FPS?

This is a modified from the same author when talking about a much more powerful, and slighly cheaper device, namely the Smach Z, there's plenty to criticize the Smach Z on, but seeing these two articles side by side, the author has a serious case of fanboyism.

The author based his criticism from Tom's info. This is a real product from a successful company while your slightly cheaper device seemingly always delayed with a heavy price tag from an unscrupulous unproven company. Your slightly cheaper device also comes with single channel 4GB RAM, 64GB SSD only and without Windows.

No, the Author based his criticism on the price, he also doesn't take into account that the Smach Z's price is including VAT, the GPD isn't(this is due to the GPD being made in China, and Smach Z, in Europe)
Note I didn't point out him mentioning it being late, because that's fair game, but his views on price shifts when it's a weaker device he likes, that's pretty obvious bias.

I'm afraid Anonymous is correct. I would not buy either the Smach Z or the Win 2 and I do not hold a candle to either. Any perceived bias is exactly that, I am not disposed to either device or company.

Still, it is funny being labelled a fanboy based on someone's preference for a particular device.

Hoping for a properly implemented USB-C, so I can use one hub for hdmi ethernet USB accessories and charging!

Even better, Thunderbolt, for entry level eGPU!

GPD Win 2 already has a proper USB-C port. It can use any USB-C hub and output a second display through it. Thunderbolt will only arrive with Ice Lake.
