LG backtracks on its stance, promises Pie for the ignored LG V20

A short while ago, it was revealed that LG had ended future software support for the V20, ensuring that the flagship would be stuck on the only major OS update it received: Oreo. It would appear that LG has made a U-turn on that decision, and the V20 could receive Pie after all.

I use AT&T. My V20 hasn't even received an update to Android 8 (Oreo). Maybe because I'm on a prepaid plan. Or because my V20 is unlocked.

I'm pretty sure the unlocked V20 never received Oreo.

Don't know if it is hardware problem or caused by software update, the battery life on my one year old v20 is so poor in recent months (no matter on nougat or oreo) so that it will be empty for only half day use (morning to around lunch). Pretty sure not due to apps but OS or hardware, and sometimes it is pretty warm even when not in use.
Switch to another phone seems to be my only option, so not concerned whether pie will come.

The Sprint variant of lg v20 (ls997), hasn't got kdz or tot firmware to download and unbrick the device.
The only way to get Oreo is by OTA only.
if your device stuck in bootloop, then go and buy a new phone 😂

V20 was twice the phone that the ThinQ is. I'm sorry I switched, update or no.

I havent even updated to Oreo cause since I can't root the phone after the devs at android whatever gave up and everything is still functioning.

Pie or not the damn thing plays decent music via headphones and Bluetooth on poweramp, stock player and android with noozoxide providing some extra options.

Cant install viper4android but beggars cant be choosers.

Dont want to wreck this by going for oreo or pie or custard.

Most who update and find device not functioning stuck with no support from Lousy Group.

I just got the Oreo update for my unlocked US996 earlier this month.  I couldn't believe LG actually delivered on it.  I wasn't happy to read LG was dropping support shortly thereafter.  I am relieved they've walked that back.  It would be nice to see the Pie update available for this great phone.  Especially since their Oreo was finally available 2 years after Oreo was released and after Pie was released!

That said, my update was via LG and the update went smooth and flawless.  Not huge changes, but they're nice and the phone runs better.  Even added a live wallpaper which is fun.  I really love this phone, the Quad-DAC sound and recording capability are just great, as is the call quality (it is a phone after all).  AND I don't plan on changing to any smartphone that doesn't have a removable battery - smartphones cost way too much to treat as disposable for something like a battery change (I suppose it's ok if you get regular review models for free, but I don't).  I really like the features LG builds into their phones (Quad-DAC being huge for me).  Even detail things like (using LG's skin) being able to reverse-pinch the screen to reveal the wallpaper unobstructed, then pinch to bring back the icons, and being able to loop through the home screens without having to swipe all the way back to the first screen (hated that on the galaxy S5 I had before this) AND I find having the power button placed on the back far superior to the side (always kept turning the S5 on/off inadvertently pressing the darn thing).  And they were first to put the fingerprint sensor there, below the camera which is also perfect.

It would be really nice to see LG start putting software updates as a priority along with well trained CS.  Probably do wonders for their market share too.  As far as I'm concerned their phones are hard to beat.  Loved the G2 and really love this V20.

After receiving Oreo on my unlocked V20, I'd find it rather more important to get all those security patches Google is pumping out every month, than being on the latest OS Version  :-\
