Intel has refreshed its lineup of NUC mini PCs under the brand new Bean Canyon platform that integrates Iris Plus graphics and a Coffee Lake-U CPU. Results are as expected with CPU performance most similar to the i7-8550U but with greatly improved GPU performance over the UHD Graphics 620.

I highly doubt your conclusion.

This system seems not be temperature limit, but TDP limited all the way. Your temperature and Cinebench results clearly show that. For a few seconds/ maybe around 30s it can make use of more than 28W, but then drops to 28W. Therefore the score gets lower over time.

Try to tweak the TDP in BIOS (which can be easily done, I suggest 35-40W) and ramp up the fan to compensate for the heat generation and take note of the Cinebench result.

Fully agree with the "still requires an external power brick" negative point.

At this power range (<80W peak) the usb-c connector (or an additional one) should be able to power the device, allowing a one-cable power+display solution. Here's hoping that will be implemented in a future version.

Hey, could you perhaps try to undervolt the cpu and set the tdp and the max turbo time higher and than see how it performs for longer loads?
If i do that on my xps 13 with the i7 8550u, i can get substantially better performance and less power draw even. It would really be interesting as than this thing could replace a normal desktop pc or to use it as a small server

I have the nuc8i7BEH model.  Primarily I was wanting to know f the intel iris G 655 could handle a game like red deal redemption.  The answer seems vaguely yes.  I am truly impressed with the formal review and would have emailed my question if you had a support email.   No one seems to provide imformation on how and what to upgade the NUC I have, not even Intel
