Samsung did it again: Android Oreo for mid-range and budget phones delayed to 2019

A week ago, we heard that Samsung is pushing the Oreo update for the Galaxy A, J, and C handsets to December. Sadly, it can get even worse: the new Oreo roadmap says that most of those devices are scheduled to get Oreo — not Android Pie, but Oreo — in January 2019. In the end, it would not be surprising to find out that Samsung cancels the update.

This is not surprising considering Samsung's update history. I would consider other brands if I were to return to Android.

There's still a lot of marketing spending that does it for Samsung, as well as brand inertia where people who were once happy with Samsung continue to fill the company's pockets. The problem is that Samsung is now releasing overpriced devices that don't innovate much, and that would not be such a big problem if they would at least provide excellent software support. The problem is that they are not doing this part as they should, either.
