2-in-1 all-rounder. With the Yoga 730-15IKB, Lenovo delivers a 15.6-inch convertible that is suitable for gaming and consuming media content. The device scores some major points with its slick metal case, backlit keyboard and a Thunderbolt 3 port. The touchscreen can be operated not only with the fingers but also with the included stylus.

Was thinking of getting this because on discount it's only $800 for i5 and 1050, which is a bargain next to everything else. But looks like Lenovo downgraded and cut too many corners. What a shame.

What exactly?
Personally i am impressed with cooling and cpu performance this time.

btw it's me or gray keys look cheap?

I actually prefer quad-core chips on these laptops as long as it has flexible cTDP and isn't gimped at factory default.

These were my general expectations:
- 2 ram slots and 2 M.2 NVMe
- close to 100 WHr battery that'll get roughly 9 hours with 4K screen
- minimum GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q
- better I/O with dedicated displayout, PCIe x4 TB3 and hard buttons on the side for volume and brightness control
- better FP reader and IR cam for Windows Hello sign-in
- better feeling keyboard with proper layout and indicator lights
- better screen for both FHD and UHD
- better audio
- better 2 in 1 ergonomics e.g. thicker bezels, softer design, some sort of pen holder or attachment mechanism
- larger chassis that can accommodate said improvements
- better QC

where did you find it for $800? i lowest i found was $950 on their site

Lenovo US website has frequent major discounts (6 times or so) throughout the year. IIRC in May this model was off 15% which came to about $800 and further more when stacked with corportate discount. Although Thinkpads get the most discount at 35-50%, Ideapad / Yoga 500-900 lines are worth watching as each series has a heavy discount for a select model that alters daily during the sale period.

Didn't you guys experience heavy throttling during gaming? A read a lot of stories about it on internet. I'm consifering buying this laptop, but this would be a reason not to do so... Maybe its just a problem with a particular batch or something?

I'm having these exact issues, and it totally goes against the data in the review.

I've just received my Yoga 730-15IKB in North America, i7-8550U, 8GB Ram, GTX 1050 4GB, 1080P Screen) and I am getting heavy throttling while gaming, it's so bad the games aren't even playable, Dota 2 and Overwatch on LOW settings.

Are you guys able to comment as to how you got the gaming performance numbers you posted in the review?  I wonder if I've got a lemon or something, or if there is some settings I'm missing.

edit: found a post on the Lenovo forums, with lots of others having the same issue.  Just really would like to know how you guys got the results you did in your review model?

Camilo

How did you guys get the gaming performance in this review? Every person I've seen gets incredible stuttering including me. I just got the laptop and I'm about to return it for the 720 instead because of the stutter. It is literally impossible to play any game. Even at lowest settings games will run at like 15 fps because of the CPU power limit throttling.

RafalK

I have this laptop and i can not play any modern games with it.After 1 minute processor speed drops from 3.5 GHz to 0.6 GHz when playing WOW on medium settings with a frame limit set to 60.
I am having a now long conversation with Lenovo support about this but I don't think much can be done without addressing this issue with a bios update that is not there.
I have no idea how you were able to get those gaming results.

I am attaching my results with MSI Afterburner

ATTENTION!!!

Anyone who has a problem with throtteling or problems with gaming (low fps)

You have to disable Intelligent Cooling in Lenovo Vantage.

Here is a short tutorial:

step 1: Go into Lenovo Vantage (it should be allready installed)
step 2: click on hardware settings
step 3: scroll down and disable intelligent cooling
step 4: select high performance on the bottom

thats it!

have fun and spread this comment please.

Have a nice day everybody
