Huawei has pulled a Dell — the MateBook X Pro uses a gimped Thunderbolt 3 port

The MateBook X Pro ships with a Thunderbolt 3 port not unlike many newer Ultrabooks and gaming laptops. What Huawei isn't telling you, however, is that the port appears to offer just half the PCIe lanes for half the theoretical transfer rate of an otherwise regular Thunderbolt 3 connection.

IIRC, the total number of PCIe lanes has been surpassed on laptops before so that is not the issue here. On laptops with U series CPU OEMs get to implement either 1 TB3 port with PCIe x2 or 2 ports that share x4 lanes. I presume it wouldn't be cost efficient to use 1 port with x4 lanes because of the general lack of any ports on compact ultrabooks these days.
This means laptops such as HP Spectre x360 or Lenovo Yoga 730 that have 2 TB3 ports always have joined x4 PCIe on both ports.

That would explain why an audio interface (Universal Audio Arrow - thunderbolt 3) doesn't work correctly. I suspected the device however I hooked it up to my MSI GS63 and everything was great.
I would like to know if the i5 Matebook X Pro has full 4 lanes.
Also, if the 2nd GPU is disabled in BIOS would that free up some lanes ?

Can confirm I just bought a DUAL HDMI 4K adapter and it only outputs for 1 4K display, not 2... So disappointed.

SO I have a matebook X Pro with the n-vidia graphics - I have a startech tb3 dock that supports dual UHD displays - but from this laptop i can only get 1 to work at a time - with my USB-C port at work I can output to 2 screens - is this a limitation of the TB3 port/channel issue or should i be looking elsewhere for an answer?

@Piquet, 2 PCIe lanes on the 2018 MBXP supports only one 4K@60Hz via TB3 port. Without using a dock, for a single cable to drive two 4K monitors at 60Hz, you need a laptop with 4 PCIe TB3.

You could however, try using a small USB-C dock that uses USB-C DisplayLink technology to make it work.

If I'm only using the TB3 port for one 34" ultrawide monitor, can I still use that port for other peripherals? Like audio jack and USB A ports (all on a dock plugged into the TB3)?
