Verizon to bring 5G to Los Angeles by the end of the year

Los Angeles will get 5G connectivity from Verizon in the last quarter of 2018, joining Sacramento as a "progressive-minded" city. The carrier still has to announce one to three more cities that will be included in the first wave of commercial 5G deployment. Verizon already tested 5G networks in 11 cities throughout 2017.

Our current flagship LTE phones support upto 1Gbit download, so what's all the fuss? I really cannot imagine a scenario where 5G would make a difference compared to what we currently have.
It's like when 4G was first coming with speeds of upto 50Mbits where 3.5G was offering upto 38Mbs, it's useless hype, nothing more.

I think 5G networks would be more reliable under heavy load. Other than that, the existing 4G LTE speeds are already more than enough for virtually everyone. 5G connectivity sounds good from the marketing point of view... ;)
