Plastic, pragmatic. The Asus FX503VM is a mid-tier gaming laptop at a budget-minded price. Although there are some cut corners, the overall package is capable, competent, and attractive.

who is keeping advising them that tacky red lighting and accent is a good idea.

Low sRGB IPS display but at least a lot better than low-quality type TN.

I bought FX503VD, the lower version of this with gtx1050 and had to sell it away after just a year because the cooling system is horrible, cpu temperature when gaming usually goes up to 95 degrees celcius and the screen fails unexpectedly. This laptop is simply unreliable

Can confirm what Jan posted here.
The factory thermal paste is of poor quality.
Repasting with a high quality thermal paste gave 10-30°C lower temperature.
Before: many games / applications never reached 100% usage of CPU or GPU due to high temperatures.
After: really nice experience. like a completely new laptop tbh.

Also: I got the 60hz display model of the 503VM. You can overclock the display in NVidia settings up to 85hz (at your own risk). Really improves smoothness of games.
