Ultramobile office performance. Lenovo calls the new Ideapad 720s an "extremely high-performance and stylish power package." Even though we would not quite call it that, the performance is still impressive for a notebook that is only 13 mm (~0.51 in) thin. We found out in our test report what exactly you can expect from the 720s in its various configurations.

I have the old model, i5-7200u and Nvidia 940mx and the ram is upgradeable. Yes is only single channel but I bought a 16gb soddim ddr4 and replace the 8gb without any problem at all.

It is a shame Lenovo remove the upgradeable ram, it was makes me choose this laptop over other soldered ram laptops...

Thank you for the review.

Could you please review the same model but with a Ryzen processor?

Hello!

Would it be possible to know which version of Windows was used for the test? I can't reach 10h of battery life while browsing with April update. I'm closer to 6-7h so that's a huge difference! Thank's!

The fans on this thing are always hearable, even while idling. They rarely turn off. Furthermore, the sound is high pitched and so obtrusive!

Under load, the noise is magnified 10 fold.

I like everything else about this laptop (the 8GB RAM limit less so), but the fan noise makes it unusable in quiet environments.

Hey, I agree that the fan noise is high-pitched, and the reason mainly is that they are very small. But if you keep the settings to energy savings and disable turbo, the fans do not run. Try fiddling with Throttlestop and Intel XTU and undervolt. Beware that, in my unit, the iGPU had no thermal paste.

Hi All,

I bought one recently and also noticed the fan noise. However, there is a fix which worked for me straight away. You can find it online.
It involves editing one of the registry settings to bring up a hidden option in the advanced settings of Power Options. After you edit this setting using regedit, the fan noise will go away. It worked for me anyway. I don't hear the fan noise at all any more.

Notebookcheck used to have many pictures of the device (left/right/rear/front/top/bottom), sun visibility, and accessories, esp. the power adapter. Do you think you can start including at least the adapter, since it shows the complete package and experience if we were to buy it?

It is on sale now at 620€ for the i5 should I get it or better wait for 9th gen processors?
