Nvidia is planning to release a new budget mobile GPU in the form of GeForce 1040. Lenovo will be the first OEM to include the upcoming GPU in the IdeaPad 320S notebook models, which will be priced between US$699-799.

Eh? According to notebookcheck, the MX150 performs better and is more power efficient than the old 950M. Why wouldn't reviewers recommend it? And wouldn't the 1040 be closer to the performance of a 960M than a 940MX?

Maybe you haven't checked the comparison between the MX150 and 940MX. The conclusion points out that the MX150 is not really worth replacing the 940MX. If it's your first laptop, sure, the MX150 is the better solution, but the upgrade is not worth it.

Regarding the denomination: I was comparing it to 940MX in the eventuality it ends up with the MX140 moniker. It could very well be called GeForce GTX 1040, in which case it should be considered as a successor for the 960M.

I assume this'll be a GP107 card with 512 shaders and most importantly a 128 bit bus. That'll drastically elevate its performance over that of the MX150. So it will probably occupy the same place in the lineup as the 950M or 945M, since the 1050 replaces the 960M.

I was referring to 'reviewers will not recommend [the MX150] over the old GTX 950M'. All comparisons I've seen show that the MX150 is on par with the 950M (and certainly better than the 940MX), but with better power efficiency.

Also the mobile 1040 is more likely to be called the MX160 if they use that naming scheme, since the MX150 is the mobile version of the 1030.

Whatever the case, I suspect this won't be a popular choice among OEMs due to the cheaper MX150, similar to how the 940MX DDR3 was the go-to choice despite the more powerful GDDR5 variant or 950M.

Ok guys, I updated the article based on your comments. Thanks for clearing things up.

Two new laptops with GF 1040:

The old one (320s) is gone, but interesting not it shows 4GB of VRam. It's weird that there is no official info about this card...
