A snail's pace. Stoney Ridge is bottom of the barrel when it comes to overall performance. The AMD option may save a few bucks here and there, but the sluggish responsiveness is a very high price to pay.

Question : Is AMD an idiot?
Answer : Yes. Why do they release these mediocre laptops? Where is Raven Ridge? Intel, in rumour, has U class (15W) quadcore and 6 cores H class coffee lake. Yet, we barely see any sighting or any 'leak' of raven ridge. Raven Ridge might DoA if it isn't priced correctly.

With price in context, the HP 17z 1EX13AV is actually a very good budget gaming laptop.  We have it for $619.99 with 3.6GHz quad core A12-9720P CPU, 8GB DDR4 RAM, 1TB SSHD, AMD Radeon 530 with 4GB dedicated graphics, 17.3in FullHD screen, and Windows 10 Home.  In our testing, it was capable of playing Counter-Strike G.O. at 45fps and DOTA at 53fps on 1920x1080 low settings.  Where else can you find a 17in FullHD laptop that can do light gaming for just $619.99?  Its all about context.  It isn't the fastest but but it performs well for the low cost.

The correct question would be: why do idiots think AMD ever "releases" laptops?!

The problem with these low-powered devices are the notebook manufacturers themselves. In this case HP.

Nothing prevents HP using 2 SODIMMs. Nothing prevents them from using a bigger battery or at least offering this as an option.

Nothing prevents HP making this system more appealing by offering a TouchScreen as an option for whoever wants it.

Nothing prevents HP making this system more appealing by offering a FullHD as an option for whoever wants it along with a MateScreen for those that want one.

Nothing prevents HP from offering a second HDD bay for a boot SSD or a second HDD.

But HP proves they are still taking Intel's bribes and only offer low quality designs with AMD chips (or they don't offer and AMD option at all) .
