Live-review! – Anorexia 2.0. Asus once again manages to have the slimmest device. For now. This time it is the ROG Zephyrus GX501 gaming laptop. Despite its height of just 17.9 millimeters, the 15-inch notebook is shipped with an Intel Core i7 quad-core CPU and the Nvidia GTX 1080 wth the brand-new "Max-Q" design. We already had the chance to take a first look at the ultra-slim gamer.

1000ms/120Hz=9 ms. The response times are much slower (20,40ms) . What is the benefit of the 120Hz refresh rate instead of 60? In what conditions is it same as 60Hz screen with same response times and when it is better?

I am pissed of this captcha test: 2 times images recognitiion, the angry switchted for number audio test, entered 30 digits and still "Need more solutions!" No matter if my solution are 100% correct

Is it possible to test the battery both with heavy load, and light load (continuous surfing) with both G-Sync Enabled and Disabled to see if there is a noticeable difference?

Nvidia shows her true face. Release a so-called *NEW * graphics card, but in reality exactly the same as the old mobile design (lower performance than desktop versions), JUST IN NEW COSTUME. And at the same terrible high price as the desktop version. Could this be worse? ??? Paying 3000 EUR for 1070 performance from this laptopis quite sad and no one should buy it. Buyers should avoid similar purchases. It's SCAM. Is it possible to test the overclocking capability of the graphics card in the final review OF THIS notebook?

Base price is around US$2K, which isn't terribly expensive.
But considering portability is the focus here, I hope they'll offer Optimus and bigger battery as an option instead of just G-Sync.

Its $2700 US with the 1080 (1070 performance) and will be $2200 US with 1070 (presumably 1060 performance).

Like you said though. This laptop is confused on what it is. If they wan'ted to be portable, they needed at least 6 hrs of battery.

What is the point of being so light? this thing is a desktop replacement in disguise. You can't use it on battery, and with that keyboard :o forget using it on the train, plain, or even your lap. Need T-REX arms to type like that.

Basically they have made an ultra portable desktop replacement, of which there are better choices in that category

The Notebookcheck was in times a good and credible web site of reviews. Since a long time, they are pushing the MSI brand. I think they are been payed for this. Lest start: first, the keyboard, it is so bad as they say? The MSI GT83 does not use the keyboard on the same place? Second, the noise level. It is true this noise level, when the Asus says in the official web site that is only 40 dcb? Something here is not right. Last, the temps, how they are so high in the tests when Asus says that the cooling was improved?

I doubt they get paid. But the "score" and "weighted average system" has been garbage for years. Just a meaningless number

What Notebookcheck has always and still does right is the thorough review and raw numbers. Benchmarks, temps, and checks that no other site does properly or as consistently.

And yes, that keyboard is awful; you can't use it as a laptop with it. (with its size and weight the MSI GT83 was never meant to be a laptop, just a DTR) This Asus is meant to be a laptop

Great design, great specs... but it has a significant battery life problem.
40 minutes battery life is not really enough for a portable device.
You can't use this without sitting near socket.

Also, 3,000 dollars price tag is insanely high. It's as expensive as a decent used car... I don't get this kind of pricing.

I can't understand this type of keyboard.  Placing the track pad beside the keys has what I consider to be two significant disadvantages.  It makes the keys smaller, and I want the largest keyboard possible in the space allowed.  This arrangement also is unsuitable for left handed users.  Even if left handed people make up, say, 10% of the population, excluding that 10% from the possible market up front doesn't seem sensible.  If I wanted to sell laptops, I would want the potential market to be as large as possible.

Key sizes would be the same with a regular numpad, and hand dominance has proven to be not much an issue when using a trackpad. No, what troubles me more are the shallow key travel, substantial lack of tactility and the missing palm rest. Don't think a lot of people would have a positive typing experience on this rig.

Ah, thanks dthrp, I see.  Yes, of course, the track pad replaces the numpad.  I use my num pad for movement in most games, and that would be a problem for me.  I would however dispute the hand dominance.  I prefer my left hand, and I definitely have better precision and control on that side.  I can use a track pad with my right hand without too much loss, but I need to think about it - the muscle memory isn't the same. At this price range, I don't think I would want to compromise.  I completely agree with your other points.

I think they should call this 1070 MX instead rather try to put it as 1080...
