A convincing concept. The equation Lenovo uses for describing their new gaming laptop does appear to make sense: power + portability = perfection. The perfection might not be absolute - but Lenovo does show that they know what a true gaming notebook is all about.

Am I the only one that noticed that the CPU cores were almost 20 degrees difference between the hottest and the coldest ones!? O.O That's bad heatsink contact. Nooooope. Not gettin' my money. :P

Well written review, however, I am a bit sceptical about the "Stress test" used when testing this laptop, since the GPU is not utilized at all, when running FurMark + Prime95 which results into (in my opinion) way lower temperatures than competitors reach.

As you can see from your screenshot the GPU freq is between 135 - 215 Mhz therefore both GPU/CPU have exceptional temperature due to this. (I guess there was some issue which prevented the GPU to run at, or, near it's base clock speed.

It is very informative review, nonethless.

Boxis, i actually have this laptop and while this stress test is kinda off because the gpu clock is pretty, though i can confirm that during heavy gaming session i don't think i have ever seen gpu temperature go above 72 C degrees. And the gpu clock hovers around 1600-1820Mhz while playing games.

Also the review mentioned that Witcher 3 performance is lower than similar laptops. I believe that is because for some reason (at least on my Y720) a lot of games don't work in exclusive fullscreen mode, and so the games can't reach their maximum performance. I have no idea why that happens on this laptop, but this problem affects most of the games I play. The issue is fixed, though, by renaming 'witcher3.exe' to any other name and then adding the new renamed exe to nvidia inspector witcher 3 profile. Only then it seems to work in exclusive full screen and get better framerates like the other similar laptops.

And while some games don't slow down while only being played in borderless fullscreen, there are some that work really bad if you don't do the steps above to get exclusive full screen. Watch Dogs 2 for example runs about 10-20fps better when in exclusive fullscreen compared to windowed borderless.

Can I connect two 4K monitors to this laptop simultaneously using the ports of HDMI and DP?

This review is weird.
Why is the gtx1060 in Y720 performed similarly and in lower preset, worst than 1050ti in Y520.

Something is wrong somewhere.

i purchased this box  a week ago   to connect to  oculus rift  as its got a GTX1060 and 3X USB 3.0 and bonus wireless plug for  Xbox controller which are basic hardware requirement  to plug in rift and touch. i am aware that there are other boxes in the same price range but unless you're willing to fork out the extra 1k or whatever , the specs  seems almost all the same so i will just comment on what i know about this box..

design and weight ( i read a  lot of negative comments )  yes its heavy , yes its ugly , its a game box for Fsake.
ergonomics : solid keyboard and pad ,  very comfortable
screen: its a laptop. does the job.
sound: its a laptop but does ,much  better then my mac airbook.
inside bits: its all there  16 gigs ram for starters ,  there is a 120 gig ssd for OS and stuff ,  a terrabyte  HD , how fast ? no idea. not cutting 4k vids on this,  the   GTX 1060 ( mobile) .. this is the modus operandi for me  so.
VR experience ; its lock and load , 30 minutes to setup, and you're there ..
it does creak and groan , heats up and demands attention from  prolonged VR  use so don't get drunk and spend 5 hours on VR as i did,  not healthy for anybody.
when game engines are able to handle more load with cost friendly  hardware to match, we can move on , in the meantime , this system rocks for VR   because its affordable and simple plug in to deliver.

Will there be an updated review for the 4K-display version (80VR002HUS) of this laptop?

Thanks

So could you please tell me how do you conclude that this laptop has a good thermal performance? I see from your temperature pictures to find that even after extreme cooling, the CPU frequency is still 2.7GHZ, lower than 2.8 and no turbo boost. And according to additional information I got, the CPU's frequency is locked and after unlocking the CPU by using ThrottleStop, it gets hotter. Thanks!
