Lenovo ThinkPad T460p (Core i7, GeForce 940MX) Notebook Review

Small hot-head. Quad-core processor and a discrete GeForce GPU implemented into a compact 14-inch case – the ThinkPad T460p is definitely not your regular business notebook. The good performance does, however, also result in high temperatures.

Why not to buy the new razer which is smaller in size, has far better pu (the 970m) or  the MSi 40?

The only think I like is the option to have an global LTE module inside to stick a multi gb sim......

For the pricing, I'd feel the acceptable GPU to put is at the very least a GeForce 945M or 950M.

So a step back from the T440p in terms of multiple drive options -- one 2.5" drive and one 42mm M2 slot? Why oh why not an 80mm, Lenovo??!!  >:(  At least the T440p had the ultrabay to serve as a second drive location.

Isn't the info incorrect regarding the cores/threads of the  Core i5-6440HQ?
Look in the table, it says 4/8. I think, because i5 is locked, it only operates a maximum of 4 treads, one per core.
In addition, at the end of the second paragraph of Perforrmance:
"Clocked at 2.6 up to 3.5 GHz (2 cores: 3.3 GHz; 4 cores: 3.1 GHz), the Core i7-6700HQ is exactly on par with the previously reviewed i5-6440HQ, but it also supports Hyper-Threading for the simultaneous execution of up to eight cores.
Here, I think the last word should be threads, not cores.
am I right/getting things right? please, let me know.

What chip is in the picture ? I mean the "naked" one  (not covered by heatsink; gray rectangle inside green square) near the copper rectangle? Isn
t it nvida gpu OR PCH(if it exists in skylake U/H/HQ)?

My stress test on this machine: 8 hours, 8 cpus 100% load plus INTEL GPU full 3D rendering, temps never goes over 95 and CPU freqs play around 2.78-3.0 GHz. And also "with aging thermal paste and dusty fans" Skylake makes balance between heat and cpu frequency. I mean it never goes over 95 or your 99.
This machine with these configs as you can upgrade RAM and disks is the best laptop of all time from Lenovo and get over %95 score from me! :)
The only contra here is maintenance hatch....

I've almost bought the 6440hq model, but after watch this great review changed my decision. I didn't know about noise and heat problem. Thanks for the amaing review!

Installing Process Tammer, reducing CPU to 95% top, setting passive cooling policy and running TPFanControl makes this guy pretty cool (avg. 45 deg, top 70 deg) without sacrifising multi-core performance and no signs of throttling. Love this device!
