High performer. Dell has recently completely revised its big mobile 17 inch workstation, which brings many innovations in the new model year. Apart from a new chassis, especially new interfaces, processors, graphics chips, and displays offer a significantly added value. We have tested in detail, how the Dell Precision 7710 actually performs.

What is the reason to remove the keyboard keys (Home,End)  ? I could understand that it is neccessary in 11" Asus crapbooks BUT it is bizzare to  cripple keyboard by  moving dedicated keys' function to fn combination IN 17" MONSTER laptop category.

Was the gpu still throttling if you changed "Primary Battery Configuration" in the bios?

Like using "Primarily AC use".

Don't know what happened with the new Precision. Horrible new keyboard layout, completely useless tightly grouped together USB ports, not to mention the missing VGA port and optical bay 2nd hard drive.  Are they really trying to make a workstation for engineers or just another Mac book clone? They must really hate money...

anon: My words totally, I mean chicklet keyboard on business laptot... not for once magnesium body saved my old precision . this plastic acerish/asusish look... makes me sad. i am not going to get this one. No web cam - really?   No VGA port?  I am disappointed in mine.

Hmmm...
it's so entertaining to read such a comments.
First, there is a web camera wit array of mic's.
Second, no problem with VGA connectivity - MOST of the devices has HDMI, and even if not - you can simply use "displayport-to anything" adapter.
Home/End keys are on numerical keyboard.Maybe a bit inadequate for 17 inch laptop but i use this keyboard and see no problems. More over, I used 6800 (and 6600) Precision before and i must say - this one is definitely better in every aspect.

As a user of this type of computer equipment I have been fortunate to have and work for 7 years with a Dell Presicion M6500 and now the same but with the new Dell Presicion 7710. A workstation without any rival, excellent equipment and unbeatable . I mainly make drawing and animation 2D-3D for visual communication and architecture. I use programs like Autocad, Archicad, Sketchup-Vray, 3ds Max-Vray, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator, Audition. This computer works smoothly and has no end. From my point of view the best, it is worth investing with; Intel Xeon, NVidia Quadro M5000, SSD PCIe 1 Terabit, 64 Gb Ram, among other things. Thanks Dell ...

Satisfied except for 1 BIG (for us) issue:

it cannot get it to run XPmode and Dell does not provide help for this.

Get blue screen on last step (twice).  XP mode is needed for us to run our accounting program.  We purchased this system (with win7Pro)  for that purpose.  Bios supports virtual OS.   So if you need XP mode, this is not the system for you.

Too bad, otherwise satisfied with performance and features.
