Business style. The business laptops of Dell's Latitude lineup are actually made for entrepreneurs. However, the slim Dell Latitude E5550 and its plastic casing also fit medium budgets. Our report clarifies whether the E5550 is just another office machine, or if it might just add a touch of elegance to the desk.

Seems impossible to configure the E5550 with an SSD on the USA site.

Still so many machines with slow hard disks and low resolution screens. Wake up, Dell!

I spent over an hour on the phone with various Dell customer service and tech support people trying to find out if they use this exact same screen on builds in the USA without any success.  The weren't even sure if the brand would be Samsung or LG.  Does anyone know how to find out?

The USA site does have one version of the E5550 w/optional 125GB or 256GB SSD's for an additional $93 or $201.  It has an i7-5600u processor.  Link:

nice laptop, however Ubuntu is not fully supported. As with other Dell laptops, this one unfortunately also has so-called stuck keeeeeeeeeeeeeeeey problem. Manifest: at random any key get "stuck" as if has been pressed and hold. Pressing any other key key stops the "key pressed" signal. Laptop is just out of the box, so all the options like drink spill are ruled out. Couldn't find any fix to that.

The key word is 'should' work with the existing docking station product line.
It does work with the E-view port replicator however this new design can not fit to a port replicator sitting in a an E-stand tray!!

By pushing the docking port all the way to the edge of the case the e-stand cannot stretch too all the way for the laptop to sit in properly causing poor connection with the port replicator.

I have over 50 E-stands to look after with a mix of E5520/30/40 so what am I suppose to do now they changed the case design?

When I spoke to Dell they didn't even know about this issue and did not yet changed the design of the E-Stand to be compatible with the E5550.

Great laptop but simply not fit for purpose as users at list in my company will not be able to hot desk as we all use a the E-Stand tray.

Hi,

Thanks for the review.

I was actually looking for a business laptop and was doing lot of comparisons between few models in Latitude and Thinkpad.
With this review, Seems DELL Latitude E5550 would be the best choice.

Can you please tell me the best pricing for the below quotation.

i5 processor 5th Gen
8GB RAM
500 GB Sata HDD
15.16" FHD Screen
2GB Graphic Card
Web Cam
Windows 8.1
3 years onsite warranty.
No Finger print and no smart card reader

Thanks much!

I've just got my brand new E5550. This review was very helpful for me (I considered Lenovo L540, similar price would allow 4-core I7 CPU).

However - I missed two important things:

1. Home and End keys: who the hell got the idea to put them on left and right cursor keys, with pressing Fn key? This is a business laptop, I really do need to use comfortable Home and End in excel, I don't need switching songs on numeric keyboard
2. Docking station port is placed near the back edge. So close, that laptop placed on docking station does not have a solid support. It also has slippery rubber feets, so I have to be very carefull using it so, that it does not rotate around the docking port. I suppose I will have to use a peace of tube and glue it to my table.

I think Dell should better design this.

I too was a little surprised/sceptical to see the new Home and End key arrangement using the Fn key. It actually makes navigating much easer though: You can press Home and End without having to lift your hand from the arrow keys and reaching all the way to the top of the numpad. The usual Home/End key arrangements found on laptops is something which always bothered me. Good job, Dell.

Bought two for our company. The Laptop is quite nice. The screen is really crisp, but colors are a litte too saturated in my opinion.

Worst thing about the laptop is the keyboard, and the key placement. I'm a programmer, and I cursed way too much. (Enter key, Arrows super small, other keys very strangly placed)

And then there is this extra thingy inside the keyboard, which also acts as a mouse. This triggers sometime while typing and does strange stuff.

Performancewise it's a nice laptop, but keyboard is awfull, sound is really bad. Would not recommend to buy it!
