Researchers turn plastic waste into protein-rich cookies

Researchers have been trying for years to biologically break down plastic waste. A team at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, working in collaboration with NASA, has now come one step closer to that goal: Plastic is broken down into chemical components at high temperatures and pressures and then metabolized by yeast.
