The hype about the new Panther Lake CPUs has been mostly about the more expensive variants. Lenovo has now started to turn their attention towards the lower priced models, expanding the price range of Panther Lake with more affordable models like the Lenovo ThinkBook 14 G9 IPL and ThinkBook 16 G9 IPL.

Panther Lake' CPU cores didn't improve much or at all vs its predecessor and the only interesting thing about Panther Lake is its Arc B390 iGPU (12 Xe-cores), but unfortunately even the mentioned Ultra 7 355 only has 4 Xe-cores.

The point of the CPU part in general is the Arrow Lake performance combined with Lunar Lake efficiency. there might not be an increase in raw performance, but who cares? Arrow Lake is already very strong. strong enough for any consumer, that's for sure. combine that with efficiency and you have a winning chip.

No obvious CPU power efficiency improvement over the predecessor (the B390 iGPU is a good enough upgrade for me, so I consider Panther Lake a success if the Arc B390 is the iGPU) (counting power limited power efficiency improvements is not fair if the predecessor wasn't power limited):
