BYD’s 3000 hp Yangwang U9 Xtreme hits 308mph, dethrones Bugatti as fastest production car

BYD's monstrous 3,000 hp Yangwang U9 has set a world record as the fastest production automobile ever. The hypercar reached a speed of 308 mph in Germany, surpassing the Bugatti Chiron.

I'm curious, why the smaller wheels.
That much horsepower should benefit from larger wheels, right? (yes, higher weight, higher drag, etc. but with that much excess power, wouldn't the benefits outweigh the cons?)

Marc Basseng's had one heck of a driving career at this point. I remember watching videos of him driving fantastic cars like the Koenigsegg CCX, Pagani Zonda F/Clubsport, Pagani Zonda R, Porsche Carrera GT, Ferrari Enzo, and Maserati MC12 around the Nurburgring, doing stunt footage in a Zonda Cinque for Need For Speed, and now this? Man's living his dreams.

Does it come with the same dog s*** brakes as the U7 Ultra which are a sad sick joke for a car of that power and weight. No wonder so many are getting killed.

When is BYD expected to compete in any sort of real racing, where actual driving skills (as opposed to the ability to mash the pedal to the floor and keep the steering wheel perfectly level for extended periods) matter significantly, and moreover where car performance is determined by many more factors than something that is frankly pedestrian and uninspiring like maxing out horsepower?
Also, if you're still only interested in maximum horsepower and top straight line speed, then funny cars making well over 10,000 horsepower make those 3,000 hp BYDs look anemic and lacking in power. In addition, funny cars exceeded 330 mph top speeds over 20 years ago, it's been ages since 309 mph was anything to write home about.
Lastly, it's not meaningful when you're the only one competing. Bugatti is a complete poser car. It's not even any sort of performance brand with any sort of racing history, because the original Bugatti went out of business almost 60 years ago, and the Bugatti of today is simply a borrowed marque owned by Volkswagen.

And "some people" are Frank Rizzo above you, right? Because down to the letter his whole comment is 100% accurate. Put this car on a track against a Formula 1 car with "just" 1000 hp and that tops at around 220 mph (in Monza, low downforce track). Make them race just three laps and this BYD car would get completely lapped 🤷 Or give it just one lap around Nordschleife against a GT3 car and watch this one struggling to even complete a lap.

That is correct. The record is what it is. Nobody said that it was faster than a formula 1 car on a race.
