TikTok ban: US moves one step closer to outright banning short video pioneer after House of Representatives vote

The US House of Representatives has passed the "Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act" putting TikTok one step closer to a complete ban in the US. The bill, if passed into law, will force ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, to sell its US business in 6 months or risk having the app, among other things, delisted from the app stores in the US.

FYI. Vine was the pioneer of short videos back in the mid 2010s till Twitter under Jack Dorsey bought it.

When you realize the US Government doesnt want its citizens using any social media they dont have back door access to spy with, it all makes sense.

Without going deep into politics, I agree 100%.

Not only the President can deem at a whim which social media platform is tied to some "adversary 3rd party", but everything has to go before the... DC court system!

Not to mention that something like this can be worked around by... donating to a President election/re-election bid.

This is pure pig-on-a-pokery a la The Patriot Act.

Not sure this will have its intended effect. People will sideload, or look to third party markets. Markets find a way through censorship, regardless of politics or jangoism.
