Tesla Cybertruck road trip: Youtuber travels 1,340 miles, 12 charging stops due to low efficiency

The Tesla Cybertruck was the subject of a road test by Youtuber Dennis Wang, who was surprised by the truck's unexpectedly poor efficiency. Along with a few other shortcomings revealed during the drive, there was also plenty of praise for the futuristic e-pickup.

So two fill-ups to make the same trip, and maybe 10-15 minutes of waiting would be less time than just ONE Cybertruck re-charge to 90%!

Why is it teslas fault he never gave it a full charge and actually used it? He used what, 2/3 at most?

Most frequently it was about 60% yes, but 70% was the highest figure, and he was following best battery preservation practice. The usage actually mimicked common ICE usage except for the fill up cap, few people will run their tank to empty ever, especially on a planned road trip. The main issue is the poor computer estimates, very optimistic.

But really none of that sounds like it would be an issue in general usage, unless you live in a cold climate, which should not be glossed over.

For those wondering why he did not charge to 100%: EVs only fast charge to 70-80%, after that the charging becomes so slow that it's faster to continue journey and fast charge again later. Adding that you start charging at ~20% (avoid getting stuck at one non-functioning charger, that is rather common), the real useful battery capacity for fast charge in a journey is 50%.

Adding the real range of 200 miles and the useful fast charge capacity of 50%, we get recharge every 100 miles. Which the guy did.

That wastes over 10-12 hrs a trip.

There was an interesting article years ago talking about if we went the Diesel way that today the average passengers vehicle so a 4 door car would be getting 80-90 mpg.

Remember when diesel was cheaper per gallon then unleaded gasoline?
