Apple touts its new, in-house FineWoven fabric as an eco-friendly alternative to leather as a material for accessories. However, its cases for the new iPhones have drawn the ire of some correspondents already, as they assert that it is not as durable as made out to be in its presentation. Meanwhile, some consumers claim to be equally unimpressed.

It's no help making something out of recycled material to make it more environmentally friendly if it's almost immediately going to fall apart and end up in a landfill anyway. I thought half the reason Apple was so popular was because it did better quality control than everyone else and ended up with a longer-lasting product because of it? I suppose, given the design flaws that have shown up in a number of Apple Macbooks and iPhones over the years, it's not really that surprising to see this.
