The ThinkPad X1 Nano is back for a third year in a row with the exact same chassis design as its first generation launch. It remains one of the lightest and most portable subnotebooks in the market, but the compromises to performance are still alive and well.

Lol, why the hell would this be under cons for a non-yoga laptop? Why is that not a con for a MacBook Air?

Then just put the same "con" for all non-convertibles for all future reviews of all laptops (irrelevant of their OEMs). Funny...

It's a shame that it runs an intel 13 gen as its iGPU is disappointing, the Xe IRIS is not capable of rendering CAD, 3D CAM and AAA games.
Hopefully the same model will arrive with AMD Zen 4 7040 Phoenix and its RDNA 3 iGPU almost three times as powerful as Intel's.

I will just fully quote myself because this is getting to be too funny at this point:

Good luck working with a h.265 4:2:2 10bit 4K 60 fps footage (Canon R5 as example) on AMDs iGPUs. You can use a Threadripper and it won't be as anywhere near as smooth as with Iris Xe (where is buttery-smooth). And lol since when Iris Xe can't render CAD? Fusion 360 works like a charm on it even with complex models.

You can get a far better gaming machine for less money to play AAA games though, you won't need to stick to low to low-medium details to get 60 fps as you have to with 780M, in fact with i5 + 3050 at same details and resolution you will have at least double the fps for literally 25% less money.

Edit: Here, to not stay just on words...

Cheapest two options with 3050:
  • Gigabyte G5 GE-51DE263SD -  i5 12500H, no OS, barely over 700€: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90926503
  • Lenovo IdeaPad 3 Gaming - R7 6800H, just above 800€: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90930371

Absolutely cheapest 7040 currently available is:
  • HP EliteBook 845 G10 with R5 7540U and 740M at almost 1100€: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90927958

RTX 3050 is stomping that 740M which is clearly too weak, 760M and 780M are far superior especially the latter, so let's expand our search to just the 780M, shall we?

Cheapest option:
  • HP ZBook Firefly 14 G10 with R7 7840HS for more than 1500€: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/p/90929906

So you pay literally twice more money to get almost twice less performance, haha. Seems like a sensible buying idea to play AAA games and for general productivity, no? 🤨

Comparison of the 780M v the RTX 3050: https://www.notebookcheck.net/GeForce-RTX-3050-4GB-Laptop-GPU-vs-Radeon-780M_10592_11564.247598.0.html

Yes, the RTX 3050 despite being the absolute bottom end is wiping the floor with the 780M at 40-50% lower price.

And yeah, you will never see an X1 ThinkPad with AMD because they are being developed together with Intel.

Unfortunately, the X1 line is Intel exclusive as Intel (I believe) has a partnership in it's development.
