Acer Nitro 5 AN517 review: A gaming laptop with a quiet RTX 4050

The entry-level gaming laptop is well-equipped with its Intel Core i5-12500H and RTX 4050 and can run current games at Full HD really well. So far, so unsurprising. But: In quiet mode, the performance hardly drops and the noise levels remain remarkably low.

out-dated processor

Lol, how exactly is i5 12500H, a ONE YEAR old CPU, outdated? To be outdated it's supposed to be weak enough to do its targeted usage in its performance group and the one here is breezing through anything without any issues, you quite literally said it in the review while simultaneously shi**ing on it.

QuoteThe Intel Core i5-12500H is a small processor - at least for a gaming laptop - and offers twelve cores of which four are performance cores and eight efficiency cores with a total of 16 threads. That is sufficient for high-level multitasking. The laptop is still easy to use, even alongside demanding programs. The maximum clock speed only sits at 4.5 GHz, and, at 18 MB, the L3 cache is not especially large.

Despite these rather modest specs, the Cinebench R15 loop ran very well.

Only sits at 4.5 GHz 😁 Modest specs 😁 But also sufficient for high-level multitasking and demanding tasks are no sweat 😀

And then you proceed to compare it with a stronger, and newer CPU from higher CPU series for no reason at all:

QuoteDespite these rather modest specs, the Cinebench R15 loop ran very well. For example, the  Medion Erazer Defender P40 manages 30% more at the start with its considerably faster i7-13700HX.

🤣

Yet that same CPU gets nothing but praises just a few months back, in your own review for the Acer Swift 3 SF314 as example (and in all others): Acer Swift 3 SF314 in review: Compact laptop with a beautiful OLED display and a fast CPU notebookcheck.net/Acer-Swift-3-SF314-in-review-Compact-laptop-with-a-beautiful-OLED-display-and-a-fast-CPU.667774.0.html

So a CPU that's completely destroying Ryzen 7 7735U (hey, you are comparing it with the i7 13700HX so I can compare it with the 7735U too) is outdated but that same 7735U is praised for its power and is even in pros in this review here from not even two days ago: notebookcheck.net/Acer-Swift-Edge-SFE16-review-A-lightweight-16-inch-laptop-with-AMD-power-and-an-OLED-display.726861.0.html

That one is somehow not outdated despite being worse performer with even less L1, L2 and L3 cache (and that's also somehow very bad for the 12500H because it's "not especially large" to quote you). Makes perfect sense 👍

Unacceptable much better the acer swift edge 16 (sfe16-43) with Wiffi 7 and almost $500 cheaper

For this price, a weak and hot processor. An outdated fhd screen with a too low ppi, which leads to a clearly grainy picture and eye fatigue at 17" - here a minimum 4k screen is required.

And as always, Acer and other Chinese have a corrupted numpad. Not allowing quick blind work with the keyboard on the memory of hands.

They cut their own sales.

Needed for 1400 euros:
17.3 4k@144hz from 16:10. 1500:1+, <7ms G2G/B2W response. With a minimum of 100% sRGB. With auto-VRR for psu/battery.

R9 7840HS + 32Gb DDR5 5600. 2xUSB40 / 2-3xUSB-A 3.2 Gen2 (on left/right side). RJ45 2.5-5Gbps. HDMI 2.1 (48Gbps).

+2TB SSD.

Or sales will drop further...

Ah, lol, now when there is more and more 4K 120 Hz, as you kept parroting around in every single comment, you bumped it up to 144 Hz just to keep complaining 😄 Here, just a couple of them from different RECENT comments of yours:

Quote from: NikoB on April 26, 2023, 13:56:19Here you need a 4k@120Hz panel with a response of 6-7ms.

Quote from: NikoB on January 30, 2023, 12:22:021. Terrible fhd screen, instead of 4k@120Hz (as on T16)

Quote from: NikoB on April 18, 2023, 13:36:00As well as screens of at least 2.5k@144Hz, and preferably 4k@120Hz with HDR400.

Quote from: NikoB on June 16, 2023, 14:49:34Only 4k@120Hz panels need to be installed (with the transition to eDP2.0+ 144-165Hz).

Quote from: NikoB on June 16, 2023, 22:08:30And only a 4k@120Hz panel gives that much, which, moreover, would allow playing in the most sharp fhd mode at the pixel level, which a 2.5k panel cannot give.

And when they start with 4K 144 Hz you will, naturally, bump up your "requirements" to 4K 165 Hz because whining, bit*hing and crying is eternal even when you get exactly what you want(ed) 👍

Neenyah, you are a local clown who has nothing to say on the merits, but you can't make a joke either. You are mediocre in everything.

Neenyah

When you have no arguments and when faced with your own written sh*tfest you go with insults, as usual from you NikoB (B stands for "Braindead", right?) 😁

Thanks for the review!
The screen seems bad - that's a pitty.
Also a great section of comparison between the different setups in the NitroSense (very useful for me at least)!
Three days ago I bought the improved version of this Nitro - with i7-12700h and 4060 and a Qhd screen (cost me 1650 Euro with 32 Gigs and 2 TB) - I think it's a much better option. But for the right price this version seems fine. Don't forget that good temperatures mean that it can potentially serve you longer.

That sounds like a very good purchase! I hope that the screen is good because everything else surely is. I hope it will serve you long and well 🤞☺️🤞

Thanks! The screen seems nice (it's probably the same as the one in the review "Acer Nitro 5 AN515-58 review: Fast QHD gaming notebook" here).
