The beauty of socketed RAM: Upgrades are possible long after the respective laptop came out. Sometimes the memory capacity can even go beyond the capacity that is "officially" supported - when bigger SO-DIMM modules come out. When DDR4 dominated the market a few years ago, 32 GB modules were released. Now with DDR5, we will see the release of 48 GB sticks.

I'm pretty sure Alder Lake and Raptor Lake mobile (U, P and H) as well as Zen 3/3+ officially only support up to 64GB.

Officially yes, but that is because Intel/AMD only test their processors with the maximum amount of RAM possible at the time of their release.

Raptor Lake only supports 64 GB officially (Raptor Lake U, P and H) and 128 GB (Raptor Lake HX), but the new ThinkPad P16v with Raptor Lake H has been announced with 96 GB of RAM - and its more expensive, thicker brother ThinkPad P16 G2 with Raptor Lake HX will be sold with 192 GB, despite Intel's official limitations.

Only the new AMD Zen 4 Phoenix supports
Ryzen 7040 Phoenix-HS APU for 4nm ultrabooks supports up to 128GB of RAM

The memory controller will allow the use of DDR5-5600 or LPDDR5x-7500 in dual-channel mode. Interestingly, the processors support 4 modules (even two-rank ones), while the total RAM capacity can be 256 GB. Of course, it is not a fact that many manufacturers will implement similar configurationsand laptops
