Lenovo is expanding its consumer lineup with a new high-end series. The Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i will be available in two sizes and powerful components like the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 as well as miniLED screens. We were able to take a look at the new prosumer flagship ahead of its launch.

In my eyes that also applies to Dell, ASUS, HP, Samsung (e.g. no design philosophy, design changes just to offer something new, strange colour decisions like no silver and no grey in the case of the 2022 ASUS ZenBook S13, instead blue, green, pink/red, white).

That alone is going to make me switch to an Apple MacBook.

Yes, but that is nothing new. They screwed the brand years ago.

I don't know about you but 90% of my stuff is still USB A. Having more USB-C ports though would be nice, but I would still want a few USB A ports, at least 2 so I don't have to carry around an adapter

There are certainly people who would like to slide floppy disks or CDs into their laptops... back to the past.

You even wouldn't have "to carry around" adapters. Just buy new cables with an USB C port one side or put once adapters in the USB C ports and let them in there.

But the difference storing online or SD cars are cheap so it is easy to replace CDs and floppies, but even then it took a good decade till they stopped including them in laptops.

But it gets more difficult with USB. You are thinking that all USB devices can just be replaced with a new cable, but unfortunately not all USB devices come with detachable cables.

Not to mention not all users are tech savvy enough to look for cables on ebay(And know how to sort out defective ones from good ones), in the store USB cables are not cheap, and some are harder to find. For example many detachable cable devices still use mini-usb. Good luck finding mini-usb to usb-c in a local store.

Some things are harder to replace, just look at 3.5mm ports. Those were easily replaceable by USB yet how long did they take. Or why do you need multiple USB ports in the first place in 2023? We have wireless

It will be at least a good 5 years or more before USB-A starts getting phased out.

More overpriced junk from lenovo

they've totally ruined the thinkpad brand - and they think we'll trust them with a yoga?

No. They're done. There are better alternatives for less money from better brands

Only you know why you've tried to distract from the topic ("Or why do you need multiple USB ports in the first place in 2023? We have wireless).

I mentioned two possible solutions to you, but obviously you are not interested into solutions.

I mentioned two possible solutions to you, but obviously you are not interested into solutions.

Or some people don't care for such, they just want to plug stuff into their laptops and not worry about looking for "solutions". I can find you a solution to make everything wireless, but are you going to go okay I don't need usb ports anymore?

Their goal is wide appeal, people complain when there is a lack of USB-A ports. USB-A ports also have the advantage of being more durable than USB-C. One of the problem with tiny ports is the tip bends easily. I've already broken a few USB-C cables and ports. I've not yet broken a USB-A one despite using them for much longer

Also, I have USB-A flash drives which fold, how do I stick an adapter to that at all times? What if someone gives me a flash drive, do I expect them to give me an adapter too? Or it goes back to carrying adapters around.

We didn't switch from floppys/cd-roms because they were "dated" we switched away from them because software vendors stopped using them first. I already got stuff on flashdrives at conventions instead of CDs before they disappeared off laptops. I have yet to receive a usb-c flash drive. I am still getting microusb devices even.

It's pointless to discuss with you. You don't read carefully and once again you tried to distract from the topic. Have fun at sticking in the past and complaining about solutions which enable the use of old technologies in modern devices (devices like for example the Apple MacBooks with the M1 and M2 chips).

I actually agree with joeyjoejoeshabadoo. Lenovo used to make some pretty good ThinkPads but the quality they're known for has degraded over the last year. YOGA has never been known for excellent quality or performance but mostly on their ability to be a 2-in-1 (or 360 degree flips?) and now they're using the same brand to try enter the premium laptop space.

I don't disagree, it's not for gaming (while it probably can) and it's not for the budgeteers, but I wouldn't be an early bird purchaser for this device until I'm sure some honest reviews can back up their claims.

No offence.

the two USB A ports are most welcome, I use USB sticks and a wireless USB keyboard every day and only having one USB A is a real inconvenience. Pity the Yoga 7 Pro isn't like the 9 Pro in terms of ports.

I don't believe anybody really needs "wireless USB" keyboards, mice maybe for a lower latency/higher DPI but keyboards? Just use BT.
