The Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 supposedly scored 1,930 and 6,236 in Geekbench's single and multi-core tests. The SoC will allegedly feature a 1+5+2 core configuration and be 20% more power-efficient compared to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2.

8 gen 3 must be compared with A17 and NOT A16, which is a 2022 chip.

Actually A17 should be compared with 8gen2, both used in phones of 2023 and, 8gen3 with A18 bionic in 2024 phones.

Still well done to Qualcomm for genuinely improving on the 8gen1 mess thanks to Samsung chip foundry. Keep it up Qualcomm😃

a17 shall be compared to 8 gen 3 because they are very close in launch dates. a17 launches in sept/oct and qualcomm usually launches their new generation in nov/dec.

drop some of the "edly" and "ably" please, it hurts to read this stuff

"While the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 has dramatically improved upon its predecessor's shortcomings, it still cannot hold a candle to Apple's offerings"

Uhh, how so?

I don't thinks that this could be a proved leak.
Where is the 8 Gen 2 + ?
Snapdragon normaly are working on an Plus refresh.

This wouldn't be possible. A16 is sold 9/12 months of 2023, while the 8Gen2 and 8+Gen2 will be sold all year, and a few examples appeared around end of 2022. So no, we can't compare the A17 with 8Gen2 but it will still be done and there is nothing that we can do. But yeah, this comparison also isn't 100% fair but A16 is at the end of the day GeekBench champion so this also makes sence.

You've got one data point showing a performance increase of 20-30% and a 'claim' that the efficiency will increase by 20% but nothing tying those two together. The efficiency claim is likely relative to some optimal point on the performance/power curve while the benchmark score might be pushing the chip to it's physical limits way beyond that optimal point.

SOC makers have been trying to catch up to Apple for over a decade now, and I'll believe it when I see it.

While it's true that the upcoming Qualcomm snapdragon 8 gen 3 chip should have to go up against Apple's upcoming A17 bionic chip instead of  their current A16 bionic chip, Apple's still in a good position when it comes to real world performance by most phone users. While the 8 gen 3 may have more raw power than the A16 bionic, Apple's superiority in hardware-software efficiency optimization vs android based phones often times gives Apple iphones the performance edge, and in addition iphones with their iOS OS run smoother with less hiccups compared to android OS based phones.
