Acer is among the first OEMs to ready budget laptops powered by the Mendocino processor lineup from AMD. The new Aspire 3 models are fairly affordable and feature Ryzen 3 7320U or Ryzen 5 7520U APUs with integrated RDNA 2 Radeon 610M graphics, a 15.6-inch screen, 8 GB LPDDR5 and 128 GB NVMe SSD storage.

I need to know how these cheap systems compare to a Steam Deck for gaming. Same, worse, much worse? Need to know basis asap lol.

Well, all the of manufacturers have to sell old stock they didn't get sold since the PC sales slowdown. What better way to do so than to sell under the guise of a 'new, upgraded 7000 series successor' Apu
Zen 2 is a rebadged 4000 series. Like previous poster, 5500u series laptops  with same specs on sale now for the same price.
Remember people, the real Zen 4 series to look out for will have Apu numbers 7*4*

RDNA2 with Zen2. They went out of their way to make this strange combination.

The 4000/5000 series you reference could either be Zen2+Vega or Zen3+Vega, I don't care to check up which specific SKU it was (5000 series had both variants).

It's not a horrible combination. Zen2 is an optimal design for small quad-cores, smaller than Zen3 on the same node.

The first problem is that rather than being identical to the Steam Deck chip, it gets 25% of the GPU cores. The TDP range is not any lower from this omission.

The second problem are the prices. It might command $400-700 if it had 8 CUs of RDNA2 like the Steam Deck. Instead, it's weaker and competes with cheaper 11th/12th gen Intel, and older AMD SoCs. Even the next-gen Atom i3-N305 should have similar CPU/GPU performance.

At the right price, it's good. It will eventually replace processors like the A6-9220C as the cheapest budget SoC from AMD, and could be sold for years to come. Even if you are not willing to buy it between $100-200, you would use it if the laptop fell from out of the sky and directly into your hands, because it's more than enough performance for light tasks.

The article didn't mention the dual-core Athlon versions. Let's see what OEMs try to charge for those out of the gate.

That was a typo. I'm aware the 4000 series is Zen 2.
The cu's in these rebadged Zen 2 (610m) are too low and I surmise that the performance may be same as a Vega 8 on from 5500u apu.

5500U is Vega 7.

I think Mendocino will have about 30-50% the performance of Vega 8. You can check this by comparing benchmarks of the Ryzen 7000 iGPU to Vega 8 in the 5700G. Ryzen 7000 iGPU is the same size as Mendocino but does not officially share the Radeon 610M name last time I checked, and it clocks higher. So Mendocino will likely be under half the speed of various Vega 8 mobile graphics.

If they had gone with 8 CUs, people would have been impressed. 4-6 CUs would have been interesting too. With 2 CUs, it should be similar to Intel iGPUs with 32 EUs. So actually not bad competition if the dual-core Mendocino Athlons can get to the sub-$200 segment, but nothing to write home about.
