The AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D has topped scraped weekly CPU sales data from Mindfactory by an incredible margin. While the numbers are taken from a single retailer, they do offer a snapshot of the market as a whole. Raptor Lake parts have been selling better than Zen 4 chips, with the AM5 motherboard requirement likely affecting the latter's sales.

In certain regions of the planet, you can have a decent house built for the price of this (undoubtedly fast and high tech) CPU ........

The production of high-end CPUs is a good example of cutting-edge nanotechnology.

"cutting-edge nanotechnology" - it is. But is that what we truly need in a world where millions of kids are hungry every day and adults have to buy cheap food stuffed full of preservatives in order to make ends meet?

What is this comment doing here. Completely utterly ridiculous. Join an NGO or run for president if you want to change the world. We're on a tech website, we want to escape the gloominess of the world, take a break from our daily lives.

Unbelievable...

Well, so many people still have AM4 motherboards, it's not surprising to me, you get great value gaming with the X3d. The whole AM5 proposition is crazy expensive with the motherboard and DDR5 RAM. I don't know how difficult it would be but it would serve AMD well to back-port Zen 4 to AM4, I'm sure there would be some compromise in performance, but there are some amazingly smart people at AMD. The sales would increase 10X on the current AM5 offerings to justify that work until AM5 motherboards / DDR5 RAM drops significantly in price.

Have seen crazy sales as well, the R5-5500 for $100 and the R5-5600X dropping in to the $120-130s. Looks like AMD is finally discounting their consumer CPU's to clear stock. It wasn't too long ago you couldn't find there the R3-3100 or the 3300X, now you can get 6 cores faster for cheaper.
