AMD Ryzen 3 7320U Mendocino rears its head on UserBenchmark with 12.7% gains in multi-core over average Ryzen 3 5300U and terrible iGPU performance

An AMD Ryzen 3 7320U, which in all probability is the new Mendocino APU announced at Computex 2022, has surfaced on UserBenchmark. The Ryzen 3 7320U features an RDNA 2-based iGPU with two CUs. The preliminary UserBenchmark score seems to indicate improved multi-core performance with the 6 nm Zen 2 cores when compared with an average Ryzen 3 5300U.

I have been advising people to get AMD systems when it do not have dedicated GPU seems i'll be stopping that.

Making a laptop with just 4GB RAM is kind of brave. Sure, it is perfectly usable, especially with the right software. I have a Surface Pro 2, which is a dual core 4300U (and those two cores boost only up to 2.7GHz), with 4GB of LPDDR3, and 128GB SSD. On its original Windows8, and with Firefox, media consumption (including internet browsing) was just fine. So with twice as many cores in Mendocino, that also run 50% faster, plus NVME SSD to address when going over 4GB of RAM, user experience in media consumption is likely to be good as well, as long as you do not use software that is too much for such hardware configuration.

I guess the turbo clock and RAM helps it against the 5300U.

4 GB of RAM is becoming a stinker. You can make it work, but when you hit the wall, it can really suck. Even on ChromeOS. Just don't get it unless you can expand it yourself.

There are two rumored Mendocino SKUs: AMD Athlon Gold 7220U and AMD Athlon Silver 7020U. These could be dual-cores and more likely to be paired with 4 GB than the 7320U. The Mendocino APU apparently supports up to 32 GB.

To sell old hardware under new labels and let OEMs do alike. Production of old chips is cheaper and allows ripping off uninformed, i.e., most endconsumers. The cutest of the uninformed see "7" and think "latest generation".
