Dozens of Xiaomi models are guaranteed to receive the Android 13 update starting later this year when the company begins its rollout. On the other hand, some popular devices from the company look set to miss out, including the Mi 10T and Redmi Note 9 series in their entirety.

Android 11 was already out when Mi 10T and 10T Pro were released with Android 10. These phones were released in November 2020 and the last Android version they received (Android 12) was released on October 2021 (although the phones received it only recently, almost 8 months later). So they realistically had only 11 months of update support. How pathetic is that???
Xiaomi's software support for their premium phones is absolutely appalling, and this should be reported on by the tech blogs. If I knew this I would have never bought a Xiaomi phone.

I don't know why anyone would be surprised at this point. Xiaomi gives excellent hardware for the price but they've always been shitty in the software front. Currently running Pixel Experience+ on my Mi 10T Pro on Android 12 and it's safe to say I'll get Android 13 and 14 too. It's just a shame that we would need to resort to unlocking the bootloader and running on custom ROMs to get that excellent support that we should already be getting when we bought the device. To be fair, Samsung and other Android players have gotten better on this but with Xiaomi releasing god knows how many phones a year it's not at all surprising. MIUI is a shitshow in of itself too. They should really get their act together.

And I know people running on custom ROMs is less than 1% of smartphone users which makes it even more saddening that you'd need to do that to get more out of your Xiaomi device. I love tinkering as much as the next guy, but if support is what you want, for most people, saving up to getting a Samsung flagship is the only way to go.
