Dell UltraSharp U3223QZ launched for as much as an Apple Studio Display

Dell has finally started selling the UltraSharp U3223QZ, having announced the monitor in January at CES 2022. With a 31.5-inch IPS panel offering a 4K resolution, the UltraSharp U3223QZ is rather expensive at US$1,599.99. In fact, the UltraSharp U3223QZ costs as much as the Apple Studio Display, which has a 27-inch and 5K panel.

Am I the only person who considers an ambient light sensor a must have on a more expensive monitor? For me, a priority is to have a monitor that is pleasant to look at regardless of changing lighting conditions without having to faff with settings. I really don't get it.

I prefer manual brightness and contrast settings, even though it means changing them a few dozen times per day. Automatic settings never give me what I want. That said, my monitor has its light sensor despite having cost less than €200.

Well, a sensor in itself doesn't guarantee a success. But a sensor is necessary for it to have a shot at working properly. Ability to tweak the curve would go some way to ensure that different people can find what they want. Fortunately, I haven't touched brightness settings in over a year on any of my desktops.
