There are already smartphones with Samsung's Exynos 1280 processor on the market - however, the OEM never outlined its specifications in any detail. Now, however, it has confirmed various aspects of the chipset, such as its architecture, its individual ARM cores and the speeds at which they are set.

It is notable that Samsung did not include an AV1 decoder in the Exynos 1280 silicon, which they did put in last year's 2100 (but unused in software) and this year's 2200. I guess Samsung isn't that enthusiastic about the codec after all. Let's hope AV1 isn't widely adopted by 2027 when the phones receive its last update.

It is also notable that the chip only advertised WiFi 5 and not WiFi 6 in the highly similar Dimensity 900. It would surprise me if it is actually a limitation of the chip. Feels like they "downgraded" the chip spec to match the phone specs because they didn't want to have people commenting "Samsung's own phones didn't use all its chip's capabilities".

Samsung has basically done a lazy job of pasting the ARM reference designs and printing it on their fab. This is actually good for us in understanding Samsung 5nm efficiencies because when the reviews of A53/A33/M33 come in, we can compare the results directly with the TSMC fabbed 900 and 920.
