Researchers from the University of Nottingham teamed up with the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to determine the accuracy of those widely used pulse oximeters based on the color of your skin. Standard pulse oximeters, it turned out, significantly overshot the blood oxygen saturation for the Mixed ethnicity group compared to the White cohort.

Here we go. I was waiting for something like this. They just can't help themselves. And this is what happens when you hire one.

Frankly if anything, this is just another example that medicine is not one-size-fits-all. Everything from theraputics to devices must be developed to focus on specific biologies of people, which clearly differ. That's how you get better outcomes for all.
