The more expensive RTX 3080 may not always be the faster option if you can find a cheaper RTX 3070 alternative running at higher TGP levels.

While I do agree for the most part you forget to mention the newer Blade 17 uses a i7-11800H which would also improve performance substantially.
Pretty lazy writing not pointing that out alone. You used to be a respectable review site NBC.  what happened?

They probably hired new editors for lower wages.

Before jumping on to the lame conclusion like this, sure CPU upgrade does somehow benefits the performance in the game, but only to a certain degree. Some games do show very minimum advantages when using faster/better CPU. Dota 2 reborn for example, is widely known CPU dependent - it will benefit from faster CPU. While others, not so much.

I think the article still stands for itself - the rtx 3070 with higher TDP is more likely able to stand out against 3080 with lower TDP to a certain degree, regardless the CPU.

Notebookcheck is somewhat inconsistent when it comes to its authors. There are a couple of good ones, but Ngo here and Fagot on the german sister site are somewhat ... simplistic in their approach.
