Sony has pretty clear requirements when it comes to the read speed of SSDs that can be used to expand the storage of its next-gen PlayStation 5 console. In a new video, Digital Foundry has now tested what exactly happens to the console's gaming performance when you install a PCIe 4.0 SSD that does not meet Sony's required specs.

I just wished they wouldn't lock pcie 3.0 out, it would more than likely be enough for current games with a quality drive and even if it wasn't, it would be more than fine for the abundant ps4 backlog.

Last time I checked, WD SN750 was a PCle gen 3 and not 4 ...
(SN750 PCle 3, and SN850 is PCle 4

Hi Yoyoyo,
you're absolutely correct, but this article is about the WD SN750 SE, which is indeed PCIe 4.0.
