Reports of Xiaomi locking Mi and Redmi-branded phones at an increasing rate have been shared online. It seems the Chinese OEM is targeting devices that have been bought or used in prohibited countries and territories. Xiaomi smartphones are popular in these sanctioned states but increased compliance with US policies indicates a likely expansion plan.

Expanding to the worlds worst smartphone market that is the U.S. is a stupid move, especially if it means they alienate other countries.

Remember that the US and China have a trade war going on. Huawei has been accused by US government of stealing trade secrets, so they prohibited use of Google services on Huawei phones. It looks like xiaomi will now start to face some of the same restrictions unfortunately.

Xiaomi has to bow before the three letter agencies, or they will be obliterated by the trade war - much like Huawei. Classic "accusing them of being partisan to your enemies to force them to favour you".

Shame on Xiaomi
This is not humane. Many of our people have  hard work for buying a Xiaomi phone. Now they easily want to lock them up and destroy their money.

Our people are oppressed in the world

This is a weird article... The US ban on Xiaomi was lifted 4 months ago. Is this disinformation from a rival phone maker?

You will definitely lose customers (whom you owe a lot).
